January Farm Blog
Hope you all had a healthy and happy holiday!
The cold snap in December produced a record number of our feathered friends flying in for a brief stay.
The ducks obviously like the cold weather more than I do.
Then it got colder!
During the holidays we spent time with family and friends and were grateful for the incredible gift of life. I was encouraged to read the 2022 report from the McKinsey Health Institute “Adding Years to Life and Life to Years.”
The McKinsey report shared credible, research-based evidence that “At least six years of higher-quality life is within reach.”
A new approach to health currently under discussion is precision nutrition.
It shows promise. We are not all the same. Nutrition can reduce or resolve many diet-related diseases.
Most of us want a shot at optimal health. We don’t have control over everything, but McKinsey researchers noted that 40 percent of the disease burden could be addressed by viewing health as an investment in ourselves.
Discovering the foods I am allergic to changed my life and health in a positive way.
Come to find out, these foods were making me sick in other ways as well. My cholesterol has dropped 40 points and my bone density has stabilized. My doctor explained that there was no magic pill. The rest was up to me. I needed to buy a pair of tennis shoes.
I appreciate the fact that I had a physician that was also a friend. He hadn’t given up on my capacity to assist in the healing process.
I am still not someone who jumps out of bed to exercise. Not really a fan.
These days I am walking towards something better. I plan to give my bones and my overall health a fighting chance for once in my life.
As promised, pictures from the farm are provided below. It is a winter wonderland this January.
Wishing you a wonderful 2023.
