September Farm Blog

A bountiful harvest of sustainable food.

It seems like just yesterday they were only sprouts!

Then they grew up.

Grateful for farmers and the 2023 crop.

There is a lot going on in the fields across Arkansas this month.

From daylight to dark.

Lots of dust, a few breakdowns (the equipment), and missed meals all are a part of harvest.

Would you like to see harvest from the vantage point of the field?

There are lots of moving parts!

Took advantage at sunset to snap a few photos.

A pause in the action at sunset.

View from the top of a grain buggy waiting for the trucks.

It is busy, dirty, important work.

And it is beautiful to behold.

Mother nature provides a thank-you each evening with stunning fall sunsets.

Monet couldn’t have painted a prettier picture.

Our old farm road is a sight to behold on most fall nights.

Despite the heat over the past month, flowers are still blooming.

Love the last blossoms of summer!

Additional photos below.

Enjoy.

P.S. Everything is not brown yet.

Partridge Pea blooms were in all their glory in early September. Our farm home was surrounded by acres of these blooming bushes this year.

Beautiful and great for wildlife.

Like soybeans, the Partridge Pea is a legume that adds nitrogen to the soil. An annual wildflower with fern-like foliage, it grows about 2 feet tall and attracts bees, butterflies, deer, and turkey.

If you look closely, you can usually see folks working in the field at the end of each day.

Back to work early the next morning.

Harvest isn’t finished yet!
